Thanks for the coverage Fetch! But this year, the Startmate program included a little more value: Sydney and Melbourne pitch events, two weeks in Silicon Valley with several pitch events and a week in NYC with a pitch event there too. Flights and accom. included. Legals by DLA Piper including AU and US company registration. We backed eight startups in 2012 (not seven). See http://www.startmate.com.au/portfolio
I want to see a program for people who are non tech – as there is a big HOLE missing in all of Australia’s incubators, its very fashionable to insult and tell non tech founders they will fail, yet I see so many tech founder build something and then fail.

Do all start-up mentors talk in an undermining, discouraging and abusive way? Have a look at the comments left by self-proclaimed industry guru (a Wollongong bloke, now in San Fran), Geoff McQueen? He says he mentors for startmate. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/silicon-beach-australia/4rtHMKZdOz4
What about ACT ?
iAccelerate, in Beautiful Wollongong, just South of Sydney, is Awesome.

I am one of the many who has an idea ,which I think is a great idea ,but have no idea on how to get it going .
I have been reading online what to do first and what I think is to firstly right down my idea an take it to a patent attorney , is that true . I am also very fearful of having my idea stolen ,and yes I have read that having no trust will never get idea going . I am not tech savvy , but my idea has got to do with that .my idea will save people and it will make people ,especially the man on the street. This idea has been on my mind for about 5 yrs and fear sooner or later someone else will think about it .i read I should do a search to see if it’s out there , well I have and if it was I would know about it , because it would help me out right now , it’s an idea that will solve my problem . So are there any ideas out there as to recommend what I should do first it would be much appreciated .
John
Is the Gold Coast really lacking that much? No activity at all! Just spent six months in the Silicon Valley and the comparison is depressing. Government needs to invest resources in the people to produce the ecosystem.
Very interesting and helpful article guys 😎
Right now, I am looking for partners that want to extend their startup acceleration/incubation/whatever program to a trip in Silicon Valley shaped as a startup school (which is the reason I got here).
You can find the program here: http://startups.mindthebridge.com .
In case you know someone that could be interested I’d love to discuss it.
